Renovation upgrades the express wash tunnel and expands the site’s free self-service amenities

Flagstop Car Wash reopened its location at 7123 Mechanicsville Turnpike on July 3, 2026, following a renovation that upgraded the site’s express wash tunnel and added four free self-service amenities. The Hanover County site is the latest location the Virginia-founded company has taken through its ongoing upgrade program.

Inside the tunnel, the renovation upgraded the wash equipment and added automated tire shine, applied during the wash. As at every Flagstop location, the wash is applied automatically while the driver remains in the vehicle. The company’s top wash tier, the Ultimate Wash, includes graphene-infused ceramic protection, Nanoguard+ (Nano Seal, Shine and Clean), hot carnauba wax, Weatherguard rain repellent, high-gloss foaming polish, Wheel Brite, Armor All Tire Shine, an underbody flush, and the Shammy Dry — a premium towel dry for a spot-free finish.

Outside the tunnel, the renovation expanded the free self-service area where guests clean their own interiors after the wash. Four amenities were added: a Rubber Mat Cleaning Station for cleaning rubber floor mats; air detailers, which are compressed-air stations for clearing debris from interior crevices; free windshield washer fluid for topping off vehicle reservoirs; and narrow vacuum crevice tools for reaching tight spaces.

Those additions join Flagstop’s standard free amenities, which include vacuums, carpet mat cleaners, glass cleaner, exterior and glass towels, tire shine spreaders and air fresheners. All amenities are included with any wash, whether a single visit or a membership, at no additional charge.

“We wanted this site to reflect the best of what Flagstop offers today. A stronger wash inside the tunnel, more free amenities outside it, and the same easy experience our guests count on,” said Spencer Rakes, Chief Executive Officer of Flagstop Car Wash.

The Mechanicsville renovation continues work the company has described publicly. In December 2025, Flagstop announced three acquisitions and a new site in Ashland. The acquired businesses were Dave’s Auto Spa, a full-service car wash with locations in the Bon Air and Brandermill areas; Clean Machine, a flex car wash in Charlottesville; and Aqua Wash, an express car wash in Zion Crossroads. Flagstop said at the time that it was remodeling Dave’s Auto Spa and Clean Machine to align them with its express car wash model, while Aqua Wash would be rebranded. That growth brought the company to 30 locations by the end of 2025, and Flagstop anticipates five acquisitions in 2026 in addition to new sites coming to Christiansburg, Dahlgren and Ladysmith.

Flagstop’s growth spans both express and non-express car washes, including converting full-service and flex sites to its express format. The company was named to Richmond BizSense’s ranking of the Top 25 Fastest-Growing Companies in the region for 2025.

The upgrades apply to members and single-wash guests alike. Flagstop’s Unlimited Wash Club is priced at $29.99 per month, with no contract and the option to cancel at any time. Every member visit includes the Ultimate Wash, the company’s top tier, rather than a base-level wash.

Memberships are not tied to a single site. The Unlimited Wash Club works at all of Flagstop’s 30-plus locations across Central Virginia, from Richmond to Charlottesville, so a member who joins at Mechanicsville can wash at any other location on the same plan. Membership is verified by license plate recognition, which reads the plate on arrival, so there is no card to carry and nothing to scan or swipe. Guests can also earn Wash Points through the Flagstop mobile app, redeemable toward free washes or a free month of membership.

Single washes remain available without a membership, priced from $13.99 to $23.99. Membership value increases with wash frequency. Two washes a month totals nearly $48, compared with $29.99 to unlock the freedom to wash whenever you want.

Flagstop Car Wash traces its roots to a combined car wash, gas station and convenience store opened in 1981 in Chester, Virginia, by Bob Schrum. In 2016, Jamie Nester, Craig Marable and Derek Haynes acquired the company through RVA Wash Holdings Inc. At the time of that transaction the chain operated eight locations in Central Virginia. It has since grown to more than 30 locations. Spencer Rakes serves as Chief Executive Officer.
