KENTWOOD, MI – August 26, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –
About a quarter of the fencing Fence Brothers installs across West Michigan now goes up on commercial property. The family-owned contractor has expanded that side of the business this year to cover perimeter and security fencing, steel bollards, temporary fence rental, athletic field fencing and automated access gates for property managers, school districts, municipalities and general contractors.
The expansion answers a split Fence Brothers has watched in the local market for years. Few contractors in the area carry both a residential and a commercial book of business, which leaves a property manager calling one company for a chain link perimeter, another for bollards and a third for the gate operator that ties them together. Each of those trades arrives on its own schedule, which leaves the coordination to whoever manages the property. The company built the division to put that scope under one contract.

On school grounds and athletic facilities, that scope means chain link and aluminum, which absorb the repeated ball impact and climbing a backyard fence never sees. Steel bollards, the posts set in concrete that keep a vehicle from rolling into a storefront or a fuel pump, go in at retail entrances and loading docks. Temporary fence panels ring construction sites for the length of a build, and automated gates that open on a keypad or card reader control who reaches a property after hours. Wood goes up on commercial sites as well, usually as screening around a patio or a service area rather than as a security line.
Commercial work also runs on a different calendar. Backyard projects cluster in spring and summer, while a school district or a general contractor sets a fence date around a construction schedule that can land in November, which is why crews set posts below the frost line year-round, deep enough that the ground cannot lift them when it freezes and thaws. The company files municipal permits and calls in Miss Dig, the state service that marks buried utility lines before digging, on commercial sites the same as residential ones.
Thirteen years in, the brothers still run the work themselves. Alec and Kyle Trierweiler handle commercial estimates, scheduling and field crews directly rather than routing them through a sales team, out of a 10,000-square-foot shop on East Paris Avenue. Much of the commercial work has arrived through the website, including a job for an out-of-state contractor that needed fencing on a Michigan site.
Commercial installations carry the same five-year workmanship warranty as residential ones, which covers post movement, picket separation and structural problems that trace back to how the fence was built. Fence Brothers is insured and holds a 5.0 rating on Angi, which named the company a 2025 Super Service Award winner based on customer ratings and review activity rather than an application.
Alec Trierweiler, co-owner of Fence Brothers, said the difference comes down to appetite for the work. “Most fence companies around here will not touch a bollard install or a temporary fence rental, so a property manager ends up hiring three contractors to finish one job. The work itself is straightforward. Somebody just has to be willing to get into that side of the field, and we were.”
Photos and customer feedback from finished jobs are posted publicly on the company’s Google Business Profile. Site visits on commercial properties are generally scheduled within 48 hours of a request, at www.fencebrosmi.com or (616) 348-9988.
