Three in four American adults who don’t currently own an electric vehicle say they’re interested in buying one, according to new national survey data released today by Veloz, the national nonpartisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit behind the Electric For All—The Way Forward is Electric campaign. The finding challenges conventional assumptions about where EV demand is heading and, more importantly, who is driving it.

“This data gives us a clear answer. This is a story about education, and when people understand the real benefits of driving electric, interest grows even in the most unexpected places among the most unlikely people across the country,” said Josh D. Boone, Executive Director of Veloz.

The survey, commissioned by Veloz and conducted by BSP Research among 1,800 licensed non-EV drivers across all 50 states, measured purchase interest before and after exposure to the campaign’s educational messaging. The survey found purchase interest in EVs rose 16 points over the course of the national Electric For All campaign, building on the results of the 2025 wave of this research. In 2025, Veloz’s national survey showed 58% of respondents were interested in purchasing an EV. The latest data shows that after completion of the 12-month education campaign, interest climbed to 74%.

“This research signals that consumer interest in electric vehicles is broader than many assume,” said Robert Barrosa, president and CEO of Electrify America. “Clear, practical information about charging, savings, and everyday EV ownership can help consumers make more informed decisions and build confidence in going electric. We are proud to support the Electric For All campaign and its efforts to reach drivers across the country.”

From July 2025 through June 2026, the Electric For All—The Way Forward is Electric campaign, funded by Electrify America’s brand neutral educational campaigns, aired nationally across broadcast TV, social media, digital display, streaming audio and television, and out-of-home media, delivering 5.16+ billion impressions and 4.6+ million website visits. ElectricForAll.org educated curious consumers about the benefits of driving electric, where they could find state and local incentives, search new and used EVs, calculate savings on gas and maintenance, and locate charging stations.

“Ford is a proud partner of Electric For All—The Way Forward is Electric Campaign because engineering great EVs is only part of the battle. We must also build the confidence to drive them,” said Cynthia Williams, Global Director of Vehicle Compliance at Ford Motor Company. “EV education is critical for illustrating the practical benefits of going electric and showing consumers how it can fit into—and enhance—their everyday lives.”

Survey Highlights

Veloz conducted surveys in 2025 and 2026 to measure how educational messaging impacted purchase interest at the start and end of the national campaign across dozens of demographic segments. The largest demographic gains came from groups less likely to be viewed as the core EV consumer, including women, older adults, and lower-income households.

  • Women’s interest in purchasing an EV rose 14 points, from 55% to 69%

  • Adults 60+ rose 14 points, from 37% to 52%

  • Lower-income households less than $40K rose 12 points, from 55% to 67%

  • Households earning $40K–$69K rose 14 points, from 61% to 75%

  • Latino consumers rose 12 points, from 74% to 86%

  • Black consumers reached 87% interest, among the highest of any group surveyed

  • Adults with a high school education or less rose 13 points, from 58% to 71%

EV Skeptic States Are Warming Up

Interest increased across political affiliations and in markets where EV adoption has traditionally lagged.

  • Republican interest rose 8 points over the course of the campaign, from 62% to 70%

  • Independent interest increased 11 points, from 61% to 72%

In Tier 2 states with historically lower EV adoption, like Texas, Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina, purchase interest increased 11 points from 63% to 74%. These meaningful increases in purchase interest underscore that EV enthusiasm is no longer concentrated in a handful of coastal markets.

From Curious to Ready: A Market Closing in Fast

The year-over-year data demonstrates that sustained, consistent public education builds on itself and that no market is out of reach. When this research was first fielded in 2025, the survey opened with a baseline interest level of 58%. This year, it opened at 65%, meaning consumers are arriving at the conversation more favorably toward EVs.

A telling signal of a market in motion is the narrowing gap between curiosity and purchase readiness. In the 2025 wave of this research, there was a 14-point spread between consumers who described themselves as interested in EVs and those who said they were ready to buy. In the 2026 wave, that gap has narrowed to just 5 points, a compression that suggests interest is no longer passive.

Campaign Background

In April 2025, Veloz, a national non-partisan nonprofit, won a competitive grant from Electrify America to implement a nationwide education campaign with the goal of informing potential EV drivers of the benefits of driving electric. Veloz, along with their agency of record, The Shipyard, created a two-phased campaign approach. The first phase closed the information gap by featuring Nick Offerman delivering simple, direct, and practical messaging about the benefits of driving electric. The second phase featured real EV drivers sharing how going electric fits into their everyday lives. Survey Methodology

This national survey included 1,800 adults from all 50 states, interviewed online June 22-30, 2026. All respondents hold a driver’s license and do not currently own an EV. The survey was available in English and Spanish. Respondents were organized into four geographic tiers based on propensity to purchase an EV. Data was weighted using known population characteristics from the American Community Survey and Current Population Survey. The overall margin of error is ±3.1%. This is the second wave of research; the first wave was conducted at the midpoint of the Electric For All campaign. Click here to download the full report.
