— Raymond Gramenzi, 2026 IBJJF World Master champion

SEWELL, NJ, UNITED STATES, October 5, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Raymond Gramenzi of Sewell won the gold medal in the Masters 7 ultra-heavyweight division at the 2026 International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation World Master Jiu-Jitsu Championship. The tournament was held Sept. 3-5 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Masters 7 is for athletes 61 and older. Ultra-heavyweight is the open-weight class at the top of the scale.
Gramenzi, who has trained in Brazilian jiu-jitsu for 12 years, competes out of Daniel Tavares BJJ Academy in Clementon under fifth-degree black belt Daniel Tavares, a multi-time world champion.

Away from the academy, Gramenzi owns Harry’s Plumbing & Heating Supply in Camden. He has balanced training with work, family and the rest of a South Jersey schedule.

“Winning this championship is the product of 12 years of showing up,” Gramenzi said. “I work a regular job. I have a life off the mats. Professor Tavares never treated that as an excuse. He treated it as the work. He built an academy where a guy from Sewell can train like a world champion without leaving the people who depend on him.”

Gramenzi credited Tavares and the Clementon academy for the technical standard that made the title possible.

“Professor Tavares is the reason this gold medal exists,” Gramenzi said. “His knowledge of the art is on another level, but what separates the academy is how he takes care of his students. He is as demanding as any world champion and as loyal as family. I have been fortunate to learn in that environment. That dedication is priceless.”

Daniel Tavares BJJ Academy, founded in 2014, draws both competitors and recreational students. Tavares, a two-time IBJJF World Master champion and three-time Pan-American champion, still competes while coaching students of all ages and belt ranks.

“Professor Tavares has shown that he is a world-class competitor and a brilliant instructor, which is why students flock to his school,” said his black belt student Tomislav Peric, author of Martial Arts: The Lesson. “What makes him special, even among other black belts, is his vast knowledge of jiu-jitsu techniques and his commitment, concern and loyalty to his students. That dedication is priceless. Ray’s world title is the proof.”

With the 2026 World Master gold, Gramenzi joins other Daniel Tavares BJJ Academy athletes who have won major IBJJF medals and returned them to Clementon.
