Vero Beach Tops Trending Destinations as Expanded Flights Entice Northeast Buyers

VERO BEACH, Fla., Oct. 27, 2026
Analysis from The Reynolds Team of Compass examines a 201% rise in U.S. flight searches for Vero Beach alongside nonstop service that has multiplied passenger traffic at Vero Beach Regional Airport since 2023
VERO BEACH, Fla., Oct. 27, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Vero Beach ranks first on Skyscanner’s list of trending destinations for 2027, with flight searches from U.S. travelers up 201.17% year over year, ahead of Bimini, Bahamas, and Olbia, Italy, according to Skyscanner’s Travel Trends 2027 report.[1] For The Reynolds Team of Compass, a luxury real estate team based in Vero Beach, the ranking reflects a change already visible on the barrier island: nonstop air service has made Vero Beach a same-day trip from much of the Northeast.
Vero Beach Regional Airport handled 43,760 passengers in March 2026, up from 5,900 in March 2023, and its 2025 traffic ran roughly 2.5 times the 55,000 annual passengers the airport’s masterplan had projected for 2043, according to Vero News.[2] Breeze Airways began service in February 2023, JetBlue added nonstop flights to Boston in December 2025, and American Airlines began daily service to Charlotte in February 2026.[2] Breeze added nonstop routes to Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Trenton and Atlantic City this fall, according to Sebastian Daily.[3]
“Vero Beach used to be a place people discovered on their second or third trip to Florida, and now it is the first search result for a lot of them,” said Scott Reynolds, founder of The Reynolds Team of Compass. “When a buyer in Westchester or Providence can fly nonstop in the morning and walk Ocean Drive by lunch, the barrier island stops being a long weekend and becomes a realistic second home.”
The buyers are already arriving. The Reynolds Team’s September 2026 Vero Luxury Market Report shows roughly $223 million in closed single-family and condo sales on the Vero Beach barrier island from June through August 2026, up 33% from about $168 million in the same months of 2025.[4] Single-family contracts rose 40%, to 91 from 65, and island inventory fell to 265 listings from 337 a year earlier.[4] According to Reynolds, much of that money comes from outside Indian River County, a large share of it in cash, and most of those buyers start their search online well before they book a flight.[4]
The Reynolds Team also sees the ranking as a reflection of what has not changed in Vero Beach. Coverage of the Skyscanner list described the town’s uncrowded Atlantic beaches and Old Florida character,[1] and those qualities remain the core of the barrier island’s appeal for luxury buyers comparing it with busier Florida coastal markets.
Among The Reynolds Team’s 2026 buyer clients, a significant portion of them came from out of state, with New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Connecticut emerging as meaningful feeder markets. Each of those states now connects directly to Vero Beach Regional Airport. JetBlue flies nonstop from Boston and Breeze flies nonstop from White Plains and Islip, New York; Providence, Rhode Island; and Hartford and New Haven, Connecticut. Breeze also links Burlington, Vermont, through same-plane one-stop service, according to Sebastian Daily.[3]
“We watched the search interest climb and the new routes open, and then we watched those travelers show up at showings and closings,” Reynolds said. “For barrier island sellers heading into the 2027 season, the smartest marketing goes straight to the cities with direct flights to Vero Beach.”
The Reynolds Team examined the airport’s growth in a recent podcast interview with Brandon Dembeck, director of Vero Beach Regional Airport, available at myreynoldsteam.com.[5]
