LEXINGTON, KY, UNITED STATES, August 25, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — A free public workshop on the future of space law, led by one of the field’s most prominent voices, comes to Lexington on Friday, September 11. Kentucky Space Futures will host The Future of Space Law and Governance at the Pam Miller Downtown Arts Center from 8:30 to 11:45 a.m. Admission is free and open to the public, with seating capped at 75, and registration required.

The session is led by Michelle Hanlon, Executive Director of the Center for Air and Space Law at the University of Mississippi and co-founder of For All Moonkind, known across the field as the “Godmother of Space Law.” She will be joined for open discussion by Kenneth R. “Ken” Human, a longtime NASA attorney who has served as a NASA Chief Counsel. The morning will take on questions a spacefaring society is only beginning to answer, from who holds the patent on an invention made in space to who owns what is mined on the Moon, and how Kentucky’s universities, students, businesses and attorneys can help craft the rules and policies of a new frontier.

The workshop is sponsored by Kentucky Space Futures, an initiative launched in early 2026 by Humanity in Deep Space, the Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation (KSTC), and the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development / KY Innovation to strengthen the Commonwealth’s place in the global space ecosystem.

The September 11 workshop is the first in a series of public events Kentucky Space Futures will host as it works to make the Commonwealth a destination for space business, research, and talent.
